On January 22, 2019, the plaintiffs (Tapia et. al.,) filed a complaint in the US Court of Federal Claims requesting compensation and relief from the court for the denial of monies based on the actions of the Department of Veterans Affairs in failing to pay caregivers who were erroneously denied qualification for payments, were reduced in payments, or were denied appeal rights in the maintenance of previously established payments for the case of seriously disabled veterans.
